North Richland Hills, TX - The Fort Worth Christian Junior Varsity pulled off a hard-fought 6-5 victory over the HSAA Angels JV on Monday in their first game of the 2025 season.
HSAA struck first, taking an early lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Rylan McClure. But the Cardinals wasted no time responding, capitalizing on an error that brought in two runs before Carter Beck’s RBI single made it 3-1 after one inning.
The Angels fought back in the second, tying the game at three on a groundout by Porter Lawson. However, the Cardinals answered in a big way in the bottom half of the inning, reclaiming the lead for good. Carter Pierson and Brenner James each ripped singles down the left-field line, while another Angels error helped bring home three runs to make it 6-3.
Cameron Nelson earned the win on the mound, throwing three solid innings while allowing just two unearned runs on four hits. Pierson got the start, striking out one over two innings, and Nate McPherson closed it out to earn the save.
Offensively, the Cardinals racked up nine hits, with James, Harrison Allsup, Pierson, and Beck all collecting two each. Allsup was a menace on the base paths, swiping three bags as the team combined for four stolen bases.
HSAA kept the pressure on, picking up two more runs late in the game and tallying four stolen bases of their own. McClure led their offense with two hits and two stolen bases, but the Cardinals’ defense held strong to secure the one-run victory.
