Curtis Wilkerson

Born on April 26, 1961, Curtis Vernon Wilkerson enjoyed a notable career in professional baseball. Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the fourth round of the 1980 MLB Draft, Wilkerson made his Major League debut with the Rangers in 1983. His official rookie season came in 1984, during which he was honored as the Rangers' Rookie of the Year—a testament to his immediate impact on the field.

Wilkerson’s versatility as a utility player saw him contribute to several teams over his career, including the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Kansas City Royals. Notably, on December 5, 1988, he was part of a significant trade that sent him, along with Paul Kilgus, Mitch Williams, Steve Wilson, and minor leaguers Luis Benitez and Pablo Delgado, to the Cubs in exchange for Rafael Palmeiro, Jamie Moyer, and Drew Hall.

After retiring as a player in 1993, Wilkerson transitioned to coaching. He served in various coaching roles within the Royals and Pirates organizations and managed the Tarrant County Blue Thunder of the independent Continental Baseball League until the team’s closure after the 2008 season.

In his role as assistant coach at Fort Worth Christian, Wilkerson will bring his extensive professional experience and knowledge of the game to the team. His background as a player and coach will be invaluable in developing the skills of the Fort Worth Christian baseball players and contributing to the program’s continued success.

Coach Wilkerson began coaching with the Cardinals in the Fall of 2022.
