Rusty Greer

Born and raised in Albertville, Alabama, Rusty Greer made his mark early in his baseball career. His journey began at the University of Montevallo, where he played college baseball. Despite initial interest from only Montevallo, Greer’s standout performance at a senior-year all-star game drew attention from larger programs. However, true to his commitment, he chose to stay with Montevallo, which had offered him a scholarship and believed in his potential. During his time at Montevallo, Greer also served as a Resident Assistant in Napier Hall, balancing his athletic and academic responsibilities with remarkable dedication.

Greer’s professional career began when the Texas Rangers selected him in the 10th round of the 1990 amateur draft. He spent his rookie season with the Rangers' minor league team in Butte, Montana, where he quickly made a name for himself with a stellar .345 batting average and an impressive OPS of 1.032. This strong performance earned him a promotion to the Class A Florida State League for the following season. Greer’s rise continued through the minor league ranks as he played with the Class AA Tulsa Drillers and briefly with the Class AAA Oklahoma City 89ers.

In 1994, Greer’s perseverance paid off when he was called up to the major leagues. He spent all 15 years of his professional career with the Rangers—a rare accomplishment in the era of free agency. His career with the Rangers is marked by his exceptional skills, leadership, and unwavering loyalty to the organization.

Now, as Greer steps into the role of head coach at Fort Worth Christian, he brings with him not just a deep understanding of the game but also a commitment to developing young talent and fostering a winning culture. His extensive experience as a player, combined with his leadership skills honed over a distinguished career, make him uniquely qualified to guide the Fort Worth Christian baseball program to new heights.

Coach Greer began coaching the Cardinals in the summer of 2023.
